Political Organizations

The two party system can feel overwhelming. Below are some organizations that strive to break up the corporate duopoly or at least provide some balance. From ballot measures to voter registration initiatives, these organizations work to strengthen our democracy and diversify the pool of candidates.

Ballot Initiative Strategy Center

The Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC) is a nationwide movement-building infrastructure organization that leverages ballot measures across the United States to strengthen democracy; center people of color, queer, low-income, immigrant, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities; advance racial equity; build and transform power; and galvanize a new progressive base.

EMILY's List

At EMILYs List, we work to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities.

State Innovation Exchange

We empower, embolden and equip state legislators to build and wield progressive governing power by/with/for the people they represent. We do this by providing legislators with the tools needed to shape impactful public policy and building their capacity to lead with their constituents. We foster long-term collaboration between legislators—across chambers, across regions, and across state lines–and with grassroots movements.

NextGen America

NextGen America’s mission is to empower young voters to engage in the political process and ensure our government is responsive to the largest and most diverse generation in American history.

America Votes

We lead collaborative efforts to advance progressive policies and win elections in key states by working with a diverse community of over 400 partner organizations at the national, state, and local levels. The progressive movement works best when we work together. The fight for America's future is always in motion and so are we. America votes works year-round to ensure there is never a gap in the progressive community’s efforts to build on our successes.

Our Revolution

Transformative change requires an inside-outside strategy that takes on corporate power everywhere — including within the Democratic Party. We are building power and electing more and more progressives at every level of government. We organize nationally to break up corporate power, make housing affordable, stem gun violence, tax the rich, and more.

National Popular Vote

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (Explanation). It has been enacted into law by 16 states and DC with 205 electoral votes (Map of states). It needs an additional 65 electoral votes to go into effect.

Latino Victory Fund

Latino Victory is an organization dedicated to building political power in the Latino community so that the voices and values of Latinos are reflected at every level of government and in the policies that drive our country forward. Latino Victory’s vision is marked by a substantial increase in progressive Latino elected officials, Latino voter participation, and Latino political donations, making Latino voters a deciding factor in elections up and down the ballot throughout the country. Record Latino voter turnout will have profound consequences on redistricting with political boundaries drawn with Latino influence, from school board to congressional districts.

National Democratic Redistricting Committee

The National Democratic Redistricting Committee, chaired by the 82nd Attorney General of the United States, Eric H. Holder, Jr., is the first-ever strategic hub for a comprehensive redistricting strategy. Together, we will rebuild a democracy where voters pick their politicians—not the other way around.

All On The Line

This campaign is driven by grassroots organizers who want to make a lasting impact. Whether you care about making sure everyone has access to quality, affordable health care, achieving equal pay, reducing the gun violence that plagues our schools and communities, protecting voting rights, or dealing with the urgent threat of climate change, there is a fundamental structural barrier that prevents progress on these issues: manipulated electoral maps drawn with surgical precision by politicians to preserve their party’s political power and silence the will of the people. This practice—gerrymandering—is when politicians pick their voters instead of voters picking their elected officials and it impacts communities across the nation. The All On The Line campaign is fighting against gerrymandering and pushing for fair maps in redistricting.

Fair Vote

FairVote is a nonpartisan organization seeking better elections for all. We research and advance voting reforms that make democracy more functional and representative for every American. FairVote is the national driving force behind advancing ranked choice voting (RCV) and proportional RCV in legislative districts to give voters more choices, fairer representation and better government. RCV has become the fastest-growing nonpartisan improvement to our elections; with FairVote’s guidance and a growing coalition of national and state allies, more than 13 million voters are able to rank candidates in their elections. The country’s leading authority on RCV, FairVote advises state and national partners on its uses and implementations, from cities across Utah to New York City. Two states — Alaska and Maine — have adopted ranked choice voting for their elections for Congress and president.

The Collective PAC

The Collective PAC is working to fix the challenge of under-representation of the Black community in elected seats of power throughout our nation. To reach political equity a place where African American elected officials represent the community’s population statistically Black elected officials should make up at least 13% of all elected officials in the U.S., at every level.

SuperMajority

Emerge America

Emerge is fundamentally changing the face of politics in this country by breaking down barriers, opening doors, and creating pathways for Democratic women to get involved in politics. We are the nation’s premier organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office. We are the only political organization that focuses on effective state and national programming that gives women the tools they need to run and win, as well as building an inclusive sisterhood of alums and a network of alumnae, staff, boards, and volunteers who are on-the-ground 365 days a year to support women through their candidacies at every level and once they are elected.

When We All Vote

When We All Vote is a leading national, nonpartisan initiative on a mission to change the culture around voting and to increase participation in each and every election by helping to close the race and age gap. Created by Michelle Obama, When We All Vote brings together individuals, institutions, brands, and organizations to register new voters across the country and advance civic education for the entire family and voters of every age to build an informed and engaged electorate for today and generations to come. We empower our supporters and volunteers to take action through voting, advocating for their rights, and holding their elected officials accountable.

Onward Together

By encouraging people to organize, get involved, and run for office, Onward Together advances progressive values and works to build a brighter future for generations to come. Citizen engagement at every level is central to a strong and vibrant democracy. We know that we must come together to resist bullying, hate, falsehoods, and divisiveness, and stand up for a fairer, more inclusive, democratic America. The challenges we face as a country are real. But there’s no telling what we can achieve if we approach the fights ahead with the passion and determination and bring that energy into each and every election up and down the ballot.

For Our Future

We are a people-driven organization committed to serving progressive values and causes that are larger than ourselves. By working with local leaders and organizations, we will create permanent and lasting change all around us. Our mission is to mobilize and empower people and community organizations collectively mobilizing issues and electoral campaigns to advance our shared agenda this is community organizing to win.

National Redistricting Action Fund

The National Redistricting Action Fund (NRAF) is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. The mission of the NRAF is to harness the power of people and the courts to dismantle unfair electoral maps and create a redistricting system based on democratic values. By helping to create more just and representative electoral districts across the country, we also hope to restore the public’s faith in a true representative democracy.

We agree with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”

Swing Left (Formerly Flippable)

Flippable, a grassroots organization dedicated to flipping states blue and fixing our democracy, joined the Swing Left family in spring 2019. Over the next year and a half, the two organizations worked together to mobilize donors and volunteers on down ballot races. This collaborative effort helped flip the Virginia General Assembly, as well as several state legislative seats across the country.

It is the first organization of its kind and the largest, with over one and a half million supporters in all 50 states. Our goal is very simple: we want to replace the bipartisan Conservative Consensus in Congress with a strong and activated progressive movement that will serve the needs of ordinary American families, not the 1%, not corporate special interests and not careerist political hacks and their lobbyist buddies. Simple, right?

Netroots Foundation

Voters Of Tomorrow

Voters of Tomorrow is a Gen Z-led 501(c)(4) organization that engages and represents young Americans in politics and government. With chapters in 20 states and a volunteer presence in all 50, we take a locally based, multifaceted approach to engaging young voters. Our team is led by a national staff of young political strategists, organizers, and policy experts. Being Gen Z-led is one of our greatest strengths. Our perspective as Gen Zers goes into everything we do, from the strategies that guide our entire mobilization operation to each conversation we have on campus. To ensure we fully understand our diverse generation, we also conduct surveys to gauge our peers’ views on various topics. We then use these insights to guide our mobilization strategies and shape our legislative platform, the Gen Z Agenda. To that end, Voters of Tomorrow’s work doesn’t end on Election Day. Elected officials must hear from Gen Zers year-round. Last year, our team held a roundtable discussion with the House Rules Committee and meetings with over 100 Congressional offices plus The White House to talk about our policy priorities. Now, we’re building on these relationships by collaborating with lawmakers on legislation covering a range of topics.

Annie's List

During this time we have raised $20 Million to support progressive, pro-choice women and have helped them win more than 160 races. We are committed to our candidates. We fundraise, knock on doors, hold training sessions, drive voters to the polls, and make phone calls on their behalf. When women run, they win. And when they win, we all win.

Climate Hawks Vote PAC

We believe climate change is a fundamental threat to the lives and livelihood of every human and future generations here in the United States and across the globe. We believe that bold action by public officials — at all levels of government — is essential to addressing the threat posed by climate change.  Too many Democratic politicians consider climate to be just another issue bubbling below the surface of top priorities, and too many advocates are willing to excuse Democratic politicians who tout their states’ coal and oil resources. We need aggressive, progressive champions of climate justice—climate hawks. Our Vision:  Our nation, state, and local governments put in place bold, progressive actions to combat climate change, led by a diverse legion of individual climate hawk leaders who share our beliefs. Our Mission:  To identify, train, and elect individual climate hawk leaders, while generating a political environment in which those leaders have the power to advance policies needed to address climate change.
